In this chapter we see yet another example of just how brilliant little Matilda really is as she completes difficult computations in her head. In keeping with his character, Matilda's father accuses her of being "cheat and a liar," (p. 55) instead of being impressed by her cleverness. Roald Dahl describes Mr Wormwood as he walks in the door:
In came Mr Wormwood in a loud check suit and yellow tie. The appalling broad orange-and-green check of the jacket and trousers almost blinded the onlooker.

- What was Mr Wormwood wearing?
- What does the author mean by he "almost blinded the onlooker?"
- Can you re-write the description to make Mr Wormwood seem more respectable?
